2 days can not pass fast enough.

I love my job.. I set my pace I decide how much we work or don't work in a day.. bottom line it is a good gig...(if you have the means..I highly recommend it)
However.... I have a bane ,. and it is parents who enable stupid. I have a student who has been out of school all year so far because he got hit by a truck while riding his bike the day before school. I say the parent is enabling stupid because I have sent hard copies, electronic copies and have put his parents, him and his tutor in the information loop every week...sending out electronic versions of everything..notes, work, tests..everything. well, now he is going to return after break ..and mom is worried he is behind..hmmm, perhaps the fact that in 16 weeks you did 8 of the 57 assignments...so to cover our error....lets blame the teacher on not giving us the work.... that would work if I deleted my send file...but I didn't.

maybe he should have passed last year and not had to retake the class...

stupid should hurt......

suck..

got up early this morning.. I knew the weather was bad. Did horses , dressed warm, just in case the was a problem.... Great foreshadowing,.. Driving out of Livonia.. I just passed a snow plow heading towards me, so I was going slow. Doesn't bambi decide to lead her friends across the road, so I slow as best one can.. but lead dear takes it right in the shoulder... looks at me, slides off the hood and goes across the street... so ...I stop, the car behind me stops behind me checks if I am ok.. call sheriff, while waiting for the police, I go look at the car and the deer. I now know why I don't hunt. I can't look at an injured animal that I caused the harm against. I had no problem with the officer shooting the animal, in fact it was a relief to know the suffering was over. But the morning has hit a new level of suck!
I never swerved, so the grill has some issues and the hood got a slight roll to the front edge. Merry Christmas to me.....I know I want santa to bring me the deductible to fix it , which I will follow up on after school...
That is what I get for planning ahead... I should have stayed home sick...

a little help

If no one knew this, I have been collecting parts so the munchkin and I can build a "fully functional" RC R2-D2. I have been reading posts of how to build, wire, and create an icon. The learning and programing is the father-son project, and to give him something to challenge him. I was asked June 20th to help a NY R2 builder to go to a fund raiser. I guess having an R2 makes you a desired commodity at events. This brings me to the question I am posing to all who know me and star wars. What character-costumed person, would you see me fit best as.
No, I prefer not the be the monster in the trash compactor, but real feed back is welcome.

Spring break.... Lets see redid the front room. Thought I would take out the stone slab. After many good hits with a sledge... It won.. so next project carpet left the room, painted the entire room patched holes and put in a new wood floor. MY folks came out and Dad helped me finish all the molding. Plus.
Today my day off, some cub scout dads asked if I wanted to go mountain biking.. Well I never have ridden Letchworth park... Good learn how to ride opportunity, I now know how to go over the handlebars, jump downed trees and walk up the hills... good times, now sleep calls

A week after spending the night at the emergency room,Logan is sitting here at school with me just like any other day Livonia does not have school. Naproxin has made the swelling go away, and he feels great. If you saw him now you would never have seen the hell of the past week. I an stunned. Perhaps it was HSP, it has run its course and the healing is progressing.

Thanks to all the well wishes , I Know I have appreciated it, and I hope this is all but over.

more info

After over 30 vials of blood drawn, they have so basic ideas. It is not Leucemia, cance or lupus. He is showing a positive test for the lupus anti-coagulate. This can be because of infection (strep or something) or can be genetic. The for runner now is HSP. according to a web search:

Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP or anaphylactoid purpura) is a form of blood vessel inflammation or vasculitis. There are many different conditions that feature vasculitis. Each of the forms of vasculitis tends to involve certain characteristic blood vessels. HSP affects the small arterial vessels called capillaries in the skin and frequently the kidneys. HSP results in skin rash (most prominent over the buttocks and behind the lower extremities associated with joint inflammation (arthritis) and sometimes cramping pain in the abdomen.

He went to school monday in a wheel chair to help him move, Tuesday was a day of doctors, and today he is back to school , but his hands are swollen, so a peicil may be hard to hold.

The doctotr has him on neproxin, to take away the swelling. Ideally the swelling goes down, it runs its course, we keep the event in the back of our head and be more aware of blood clots.

He is totally himself which is the best part, he does not like the pain, but his mood is good.
I think he likes the 2 hour screen time ban being lifted.

I am still stressed, but the more we know what it is not.. the fewer monsters in the closet.

putting you all in the loop

tuesday morning logan had what looked like a high ankle sprain, ankle all swelled up , painfull, se we treated him for an ankle issue. well next day he was "better" to the point we let him do ski club thursday. That night we stopped skiing early, he was sore. Got hime tears and pain, swelling , so we took him to the doctors. Doc said no joint injury, so decided to do blood tests.. Friday we got the first results that landed us at strong peds all night. Lots of blood tests. It appears his clotting factor is off and no we need to know why. It could be as simple as a virus or strep, they tested for all the above. Yesterday (sunday) his legs felt better, but now his left forarm is swollen. This is not a good time to see him hurt for no apparent reason. We have lots of doctor appointments being made for us the next few days. I hate the internet because the gloom and doom one can find and start to freak out about. Yes, I am in the freak out stage which is not common for me, but I am there. Hopefully I can post in the next few days all is good in the world and it was something simple.
Just sharing any facts I know.

win- fail

yesterday, I came home from school early to change the barn from 4 stalls to 5. The challenge was to make this happen using only materials I already possess. After 7 hours of work, I got the barn set up for 5 horses. MAJOR WIN!!! However, the lack of additional wood made some walls lower than I would hope for. I added some support to the wall between the stallion and someone else. and other little stuff. The fail... my dear wife was worried so we put the old baby monitor out in barn... I hear every wind gust on the door, and horse bump and grunt all night... While being stressed about the stallion being dumb.. I waited to hear him be dumb to get out and stop him.

so I guess I had a win and a fail.. but the horses will be warm the next few nights...

Now if they are all still in the stalls with out any fail when I get home.................

No Child Left Behind:

The Football Version

Author Unknown*

l. All teams must make the state playoffs, and all will win the championship. If a team does not win the championship, they will be on probation until they are the champions, and coaches will be held accountable.

2. All kids will be expected to have the same football skills at the same time and in the same conditions. No exceptions will be made for interest in football, a desire to perform athletically, or genetic abilities or disabilities. ALL KIDS WILL PLAY FOOTBALL AT A PROFICIENT LEVEL

3. Talented players will be asked to work out on their own without instruction. This is because the coaches will be using all their instructional time with the athletes who aren't interested in football, have limited athletic ability, or whose parents don't like football.

4. Games will be played year round, but statistics will only be kept in the 4th, 8th, and 11th games.

5. This will create a New Age of sports where every school is expected to have the same level of talent and all teams will reach the same minimal goals.

If no child gets ahead, then no child will be left behind.

With 4 weeks of the 40 weeks of school I now have a parent who wants to talk to me. Their student scored below 50% in the forst 3 quartes, and they read they are in jepordy of failing the class, so now... I am being asked what they can do about it. I am ready to say, sign her up for the class next year. Even better because thay can't get free from work they wanted me to stay 2 1/2 hours after school to meet them today. Yea right, I have made plans to pick up my son on time. SO Tomorrow at 6:30 they want me here.. an hour early, great idea.... so the horse get fed at 4am not 5....

Why did you not care 33 weeks ago when you could do something about it... gee..what if there was a problem feeding in the morning...........

Morning came...the poor child now understands not taking school documents home, and intercepting the mail at home is bad..... I think I actully kept the child from being beaten....

Because I am an LJ novis, I don't know how to hide things... so I will just vent a bit with out a lot of details.

Cub scouts Tuesday night, great weather, saw 3 ladies walking 11 grey hounds.. a few minuets a little dog went high tailing after them, from behinf the corner of the building the chaos errupted. The den dan watched the kids and me and an another dad went to help.

Short non graphic version, the little dog found out grey hounds were hunters... and he was out numbered, I took 3 hounds off little dog, by litterally opening their mouths, stupid I know..but

Little boy 2 years older than logan crying help my dog, lady on the groupd crying ... not a fun time.

Little dog got rushed to vet(good luck little guy) 1 of the greyhounds left the scene..hope they find him. I was far to close to the fun to let this image go.....

and now I have to get new pants because they are now destroyed........

IF this offends.....so what. When ,in the formation of this great country did we decide to be so touchy feely. We started the country because we we pissed. We acted pissed off,we did things to piss others off. Hence we were no longer a British colony. Then we got in the different world wars and conflicts. Good. We had attitude. That is ok. We had a good gut reaction. That is ok. Granted I am not saying we should solve all things via violence. Not the case.
My point is how did we get to where we have to be so politically correct. Yes we should be considerate of others.. yes playing noce with the other children is fine. BUT ... to go to the extremes of how we address others it is crazy. We are in such a political correct society we forgot that we got here by telling some one else to bugger off. now were are all tea parties and stuffed animals. No, I don't think so.... Then you put this into the school system and it gets worse... When a student can tell a teacher to ....(pick you favorites) and it the teacher responds in kind, the teacher is in trouble... How the heck does that work.. My head is spinning, and the system is in a sad state... Imagine when these spoon fed coddled kids try to get a real job....

After a nice week away, I was home last night feeding horses.

Well the part I left out is the fire department decided last night was the right night to burn down the old trailer across the street. They also did not tell me this was to happen. With The wife at musical rehursal, I got the boy fed, and went to feed critters. The horses we a little curious why 3 fire trucks were hanging around across the street with lots of lights. Still no big deal. I Pulled the new horse up front to feed and did not notice they had lit the back corner of the trailer. But the time I dished up the others food, the thing was ablaze! realy cool to see, but some horses got really freaked out! I opened the gate to bring in the girls , 2 went right to their food like it was nothing, 2 got really upset. Finally I got all locked in place and that still did not please some. The boys out side ate in the fire light, but the new horse up front was getting very upset about the fire. . Long stoy short, I fed all the horses way up on the hill away from the bright fire light. When Wife got home.. she went over and adressed the fire chief and asked why we were never informed about the burn because we would have fed earlier, and perhaps opened up the back pasture to help the horses chill.

Over all, lots of lessons learned, fortunatly ,no injuries or vet bills....

When Karma Kicks some one else.....

I like what I do... If I could set up a web cam.. I could provide youtube with tones of great footage.

This time fate kicked some one else but me.

Our district likes all teachers on a topic to be with in a few days of each other. This is a great idea. For example In Earth Science we cover measurement, then maps, space , energy, weather, errosion, rocks, then geologica time.

Well one of my students needs special ed support, and there is one teacher who does not care what the district wants and is teaching Earth Science in the sequence he wants. Well that would be great if he were not teaching the only special ed blended class. So no one wanted to make him fall in line and He refused. to do it himself..... well the state is very protective of classified students... so some one has been caught in blanten disregard of the superintendnts mandate... and it is NOT me...

Gee, the same guy who snubs the rest of the department is now scrambeling asking us for help ...now..

Dude , you jumped from the airplane, not my fault you left the parachute behind.......

I passed out the grade sheets that tell them everything about their grade. So...if you know what is missing.... cause I printed it up for you.....the are you asking me????????

Amazed

I am in the 18th year of teaching. I have seen a great many things, some good, some not so good, but today I had a first.

I gave a quiz of 34 multiple choice questions. The answers were put on a scantron sheet to be graded. I gave the exact same questions the day before as a review AND gave them the correct answers to the review pack.

Well I graded the quizzes and I had a student get a zero. Not a one or two, but an honest zero.
WTF how can the persons sitting at the same lab table as you score a 33 of 34 and you get a zero? Are you to stupid to even cheat correctly. The monkey beats this student! They should have brought a spinner or a die and roll for answers.

And my professional career is assessed by their success......just shoot me now........

You Are A:

Neutral Good Dwarf Ranger (6th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 18
Dexterity- 20
Constitution- 15
Intelligence- 16
Wisdom- 14
Charisma- 15

Alignment:
Neutral Good- A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Dwarves are known for their skill in warfare, their ability to withstand physical and magical punishment, their hard work, and their capacity for drinking ale. Dwarves are slow to jest and suspicious of strangers, but they are generous to those who earn their trust. They stand just 4 to 4.5 feet tall, but are broad and compactly built, almost as wide as they are tall. Dwarven men value their beards highly.

Class:
Rangers- Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Web page and journal code: Copy and paste the following:

I Am A: Neutral Good Dwarf Ranger (6th Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-18

Dexterity-20

Constitution-15

Intelligence-16

Wisdom-14

Charisma-15

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do.
